The Firefighters
When the firefighters arrived, they could see smoke but no flames. This was a dangerous situation because they could not tell where the fire was or how long it had been burning. Trucks suspended the firefighters over the roof so they could safely fight the fire from above as the roof collapsed.

The Cleanup
Team had more than 60 people working throughout the week. In that first 48 hour period, Team removed heavy, dangerous debris, and cleaned away soot and ash. The facilities were spotless for the inspection.

Rebuilding Begins
The fire had also gutted the area between the receiving and packaging departments. Team worked with a fellow commercial contractor, D&D Building, Inc. |
 |
| Fulfilling D&Ds vision, Team built a tunnel that allows deliveries to now be safely moved between them. The tunnel will stand until D&D completes the permanent structure. |

FDA Approved
Peter Nielson of Alliance Analytical Labs, Inc. was the man who gave the pre-USDA OK. Peter normally gets the Byron Center Meats facilities up to USDA standards every night. He ensured that the facilities surpassed these standards after the fire as well.

Back in Business After 2 Days
After a major fire that would cripple most businesses, Byron Center Meats was back in business after two days. |
.jpg) | One of Byron Center Meats owners, Steve Sytsma, said shortly after the fire, "We are doing great now. We are excited about the rebuilding. Our three major divisions are up and running, so we can take care of our customers needs. Our new retail division has been moved, but at least we are on the same block! "
Sytsma also said how thankful he is to the Byron Center community. "They helped us move equipment and empty freezers; they even brought over ice cream and food. Our employees were also part of that team spirit. We can truly see blessings, even in a fire."
